Newsletter Improvements Include Focused Summaries, Engaging Graphics

Fire District 84 (renamed) serves a small bedroom community outside of Seattle.

Howard Communications Group provided a refresh option for Fire District 84’s dated, letter-sized quarterly newsletter. Because of the size of the single-page, two-sided newsletter, readers were overwhelmed with too much text. Indiscriminate blocks of color further dated the piece.

HCG recommended that the district shift the newsletter with a focus on brevity. HCG developed more concise content and visuals to support the messaging.

Understanding this new purpose, summaries can serve as an introduction that can lead to a deeper discussion on the district’s website. The integration of printed and digital pieces serves readers of all content presentation levels.

The thumbnails above include Before and After images, providing a contemporary presentation, integrating white space and content-rich graphics. The design also allows the reader’s eye to “breathe,” offering more concise and compelling messaging.
